Shop the look: Maxwell display home

Our Interior Decorator, Tarina @oh.eight.oh.nine has styled our beautiful Maxwell display with a luxe feel. Shop the look below on a budget.

The Maxwell is packed with really awesome home features, so the modern-luxe brief was a great fit for this display based in Apsley Estate, Mandogalup. With open-plan kitchen/dining/living/activity, double vanities and showers, separate study and so much more, the Maxwell floor plans is one of Tarina’s absolute favourites and the refined luxury details elevate the overall aesthetic.

The starting point

When doing the interior selections for this home, Tarina chose her preferred colour palette first. Wanting to work with tones of warm grey, champagne and brown, with her choice of feature colour being Ochre. These are all neutral colours that create a sense of indulgence and luxury.

The key selections!

With the Maxwell’s palette and interior selections locked in, it was time for Tarina to discover what art she could bring into the home to emphasise her modern luxe interiors. Key materials and details that Tarina has used emphasise the lavish look are listed below to also help you filter through products that will best suit the brief.

  • Marble
  • Brass or gold accents
  • Glass and acrylic
  • Chunky boucle fabrics
  • Lush velvets
  • Quilting and pleat details
  • Faux furs
  • Fluting and ribbed profiles
  • Metallics
  • Gold foil
  • Woven silks

All these textures and materials evoke that opulent and luxury feel in the same way the palette does and these elements were placed in each space to ensure the modern-luxe style flowed seamlessly throughout the home

Get the look for less!

Tarina used both budget friendly as well as some show stopping higher priced selections in the home, to maintain a beautiful and achievable overall look. So, you can get a budget friendly luxe look.

Here are her top 5 tips to help you get a luxe look for less.

  • Buy white furniture and use brass or gold hardware to add a feature to the doors or drawers. Don’t let an unfavourable handle on a product deter you from buying it, as often the handles can be changed (but best to check with the supplier first.) Tarina had new handles installed on both entertainment units and the master bedroom bedside tables (above.) Ikea and Mocka were my go-to stores for white furniture.
  • Use paint or wallpaper as a feature wall. The pearl weave wallpaper in the Maxwell master bedroom was an affordable purchase and it gives the room visual impact, in a soft and subtle way. Linked below in the Shop The Look.
  • Posters are a great cost effective way to fill blank walls in your home without spending hundreds on each piece of artwork. Tarina has used a lot of artwork and posters from Urban Road in the Maxwell because they have an awesome range of abstract, neutral and kid’s designs available in both framed and unframed options.
  • Marble, acacia wood, embossed glass and brass/gold decor can be found in a lot of budget-friendly retailers. Tarina’s top picks for luxe little trinkets were Spotlight, Big W, Kmart, Target, Adairs, Officeworks, Freedom, Myer and Ikea.
  • Affordable bed linen can be dressed up easily with a beautiful coverlet or throw. A (flat and tight) waffle weave quilt cover will make a great foundation to then layer some more lavish textures on top of.
  • Mirrors are the ultimate luxe statement and can be used to lighten a room, create the illusion of more space, reflect a feature or be a feature on the wall. Temple and Webster, as well as Ikea have some awesome budget- friendly options with brass and gold frames.
