Prestart with Tarina: Storage

Storage. You can never have enough!

It’s amazing how much stuff we accumulate over the years. When you move into your new home, finding a place for it all can be a challenge. Hopefully you’ve done a good cull before the move to start fresh. But as mini hoarders ourselves, we understand the ‘I might need that later’ mentality.

With this in mind, when designing your home, there are a few keys areas where you’ll thank yourself later for adding extra storage.

Tarina, our Interior Decorator, is building her second home with Homebuyers Centre.

And if anyone understands the importance of storage, it’s Tarina -she needs somewhere to store all those flooring and paint samples.

Since Tarina is building with Homebuyers Centre, we scored all the insights on where to add extra storage. Who better to ask, right?

Walk-in robe

You wardrobe will be fitted with a clothes rail and a shelf in your plans. But if you’re looking for more storage for all those clothes, you can opt to have these removed at you Colour Selections Meeting. Then, you can have something customised for this space after handover.

Tarina is doing just this with a unit from Ikea for a fraction of the price of a custom built one. Check out her what she’s planning on her blog: Where to spend and save money during prestart

Overhead cupboards

Storage in the kitchen will never go to waste, that’s why Tarina recommends adding in overhead cupboards in the kitchen, fridge recess and scullery.

Consider the laundry as well. You can tuck away all the messy cleaning products and have one of those Instagram perfect laundries.

Drawers

Avoid having to stack all your pots and pans in a cupboard by upgrading to drawers next to your oven.

You can also upgrade to drawers in your centre of your double bathroom vanity. Just keep in mind your vanity needs to be long enough to accommodate drawers and avoid the basin plumbing.

With these tips handy, you’ll never be in search for extra cupboard space again.
