Prestart with Tarina: Lighting

Lighting, back in the day, may have just been a way to light up a space and help you navigate around your furniture on your way to get a midnight snack (nothing worse than a stubbed toe, am I right?!). Nowadays, lighting is a statement!

It’s practical and pretty. It’s the perfect way to add style and ambience to a room.

You can do so much with lighting and not just the fixtures themselves, but with the placement of the lights.

Down lights can be used to create a catwalk down your hallway. Pendant lighting can be used to create the perfect reading nook. The possibilities are endless.

One lighting expert we like to turn to is our very own Interior Decorator,
Tarina of oh.eight.oh.nine.

As an Interior Decorator, Tarina has used lighting in hundreds of rooms to add to the style of the home.

Our display homes are the perfect example…

Dining room

Now this is feature lighting at its finest! You really sense the coastal vibes of this home from the beautiful beaded chandelier.

Master bedroom

You get a bit of the WOW factor with these two pendants. When lit, they cast a beautiful pattern throughout the room.

Kitchen

The off-centre pendants above the kitchen bench really add to the ‘industrial, urban’ vibe of the Orlando.

Kids bedroom

Not only is this rattan pendent perfectly on theme in this kids’ bedroom, it avoids the potential of knocking a lamp over and creating a bit of a mess, especially around those energetic little ones.

Tarina is currently building her second home with Homebuyers Centre, so we had to ask her for some tips!

When it comes to lighting, it is something to consider before pre construction. Your home design comes with lighting pre-positioned, but you can move or add lights in

As Tarina points out, your Prestart appointment is the perfect time to do this. You go through your whole electrical plan during this appointment, so you can adjust the lighting to best suit you and your home.

You may want pendants in your master bedroom or a feature light perfectly in the centre of your dining room tableHow very Vogue of you!

Now, don’t worry, you don’t have to have all your feature lighting confirmed at Prestart. You may still be looking for the perfect fixture. As Tarina highlights, there is the option to put a fan base in the roof that make it easier down the track, to add feature lighting, especially if the location of lighting depends on your furniture layout.

What is a fan base plug?

“Fan base plugs are essentially just a power source for future pendants to minimise cords running through the roof.”

Tarina always has the answers ?

For her home, she added three fan base plugs in the rooms that intend on having feature lighting; the dining room, master bedroom and kitchen. These are definitely the top areas to consider.

Another lighting tip of Tarina's to consider– Wall lights.

These are pretty tricky to add in after Prestart, especially on cavity walls.

(If your read our last blog you know cavity walls are simply internal walls. If you haven’t, check it out here)

Places you might want to consider wall lights include the master bedroom and even the ensuite!

I bet you never thought you would be so interested in lighting ?

Now you are armed with all the information to make your home perfectly lit (you’ll never have lighting issues with a selfie again!)
