We know there’s a lot of hype around building at the moment (and so there should be), so we’ll get straight to the point. We have compiled a list of do’s and don’ts for building your dream home in 2020: what to pay attention to and what to avoid as a first home buyer.

Scroll down for our expert tips on the do’s and don’ts of building your first home.

The do’s ✅

1. get help with finding land

The beauty of going to a builder to help you find land is that they are land experts and you can trust that they will find you the best block that fits the home design of your dreams. Being part of the ABN Group, Australia’s leading construction, property and finance group, means Homebuyers Centre has access to a good supply of exclusive (top secret) land across Perth. So we have first dibs on blocks that other builders might not. Pretty nifty, right?

And when we say across Perth, we mean ALL across Perth. Haven’t decided where you would like to call home? Download our guide for the top suburbs to build in Perth.

2. check your finance

This is an important one. Make sure you’re on top of your finances before you start looking at building your first home. Think about how much you are willing to spend and if you’re ready to commit to a home loan long term. With all the government grants and concessions currently available, you might be more ready than you think. Why, thank you government!

Also be sure to do your research into property loans and make sure to go with a financial institution who specialises in construction loans. Lucky for you, our partners at Resolve Finance are one of Australia’s leading writers of construction loans. They have helped us secure loans for more than 27,000 homes, so you can be assured that they have access to the best products across multiple lenders.

4. DO your background research

When choosing a builder, make sure you are choosing one that has a solid reputation and track record. At Homebuyers Centre we’re part of the ABN Group and are personally backed by Dale Alcock. Being backed by the best in the biz means that we keep the promises we make to deliver the dream of home ownership, even in busy times.

Plus with a 12 month service warranty and 25 structural guarantee, you can bet we will deliver the highest quality product at an affordable price.

The Don’ts ❌

1. don’t be afraid of a smaller lot

Bigger is not always better. If you’re a first home buyer, it’s likely that you will be looking at home designs that pack a punch but are also affordable. This is our speciality! Our home designs are cleverly constructed to maximise living spaces and provide clever storage solutions. Plus, smaller lots don’t necessarily mean a smaller home.

2. Don’t go unprepared to a display home

After checking out our amazing single storey and two storey home designs, you will have more of an idea of what you’re looking for in your dream home. Now the fun bit! 3. Don’t sign up for anything without knowing what you’re getting

It’s an unfortunate truth, but every builder includes different things in their base price, making it pretty tricky to compare apples to apples. There’s a few essentials that you should consider when comparing inclusions; BAL (bushfire attack level), siteworks and your estate’s design requirements. Combined, these can add up to tens of thousands of dollars, so you’re gonna want to know if they’re included up front!

Lucky for you, when signing up with Homebuyers Centre there’s no hidden costs, what you sign up for is what you get!

4. Don’t worry!

We promise that building a home is heaps easier when you have someone you can trust in your corner. Not only is Homebuyers Centre part of the ABN Group and backed by the Australia’s leading home builder, but we’re the experts in getting first home buyers into high quality and affordable homes. Plus, we like to make it fun! After all this is one of the biggest purchases you make in your lifetime, we want the journey to be as easy and as stress-free as possible.
