Prestart with Tarina: Window coverings

Imagine natural light filling your home in the morning as you enjoy your coffee. We can’t think of a better start to the day? How lucky are we to receive so much beautiful sunshine here in Perth, it would be a shame not to take advantage.

Natural light has the power to make a space feel bigger and more connected to the outdoors. And don’t forget about those great selfies – lighting makes all the difference.

But when you don’t want all that wonderful light, you need window coverings!

From blinds to verticals, sheers to venetians, you have so many options these days. And each bring something different to a space. They can change the look and amount of light you’re going for.

So, to help you narrow down the perfect choice for your home, we thought we’d share some tips from our Interior DecoratorTarina of oh.eight.oh.nine.

Not only is she building her second home with Homebuyers Centre, but she has tonnes of experience decorating our beautiful display homes.

They wouldn’t look half as good without Tarina, she knows just how to dress a room with lots of natural light to make sure our homes are looking on point.

And with Tarina only recently completing her own Prestart, she had some great tips to share on the subject of window coverings.

The first thing to consider is cost. You’ll be surprised at how quickly it all adds up. Like Tarina says,

“It’s an area to definitely budget for if you want to upgrade your selections to quality products like sheer curtains and plantation shutters.”

You might decide to do what Tarina has done with her own home and remove all window coverings from your contract, opting to organise them post-handover.

This not only gives you more time to choose exactly what you want (rather than having to decide on the day of your Colour Selection Meeting) but it will also allow you to choose window coverings that complement your interiors once you’re all unpacked.

We recommend thinking about window coverings by room.

There are rooms where you may want to splurge, like where you’ll spend the most time or want added privacy. And remember, you don’t have to have the same window coverings in every room. Each room is different and has different requirements. Don’t be afraid to mix it up.

Consider splurging in high traffic areas like the living, dining and kitchen.

Then, in the bathroom or laundry you can save some money. For example in the laundry, standard vertical blinds work well in this part of the home while keeping the costs down.

Other rooms to consider are the master bedroom and theatre room.

We would suggest blockout blinds or curtains in both these rooms so that you have the option to add sheer curtains later.  These are rooms you’ll appreciate a bit of darkness, and if located at the front of your home with a big beautiful window, a bit of added privacy.

So, keep these tips in mind when it comes to your Prestart appointment and your home will be well equipped for every occasion... lazy Sunday morning sleep ins, movie nights, dancing around in your underwear (something we may not want the neighbours to see).
