Inside our interior decorator’s Homebuyers home

Our interior decorator built her first house with Homebuyers Centre around 10 years ago and has since used it as a canvas for all her style inspiration.

Who lives here: Tarina and son Chet
Style of home: fresh, modern, clean
Timeline: built with Homebuyers Centre 10 years ago – still living in today

Building and designing a family home often brings with it a sense of responsibility – but when the house is built by an interior decorator, there’s an extra sense of duty to uphold. Tarina, also known by her blog name, oh.eight.oh.nine, is not only the Homebuyers Centre interior decorator, but also a Homebuyers client of 10 years. Tarina built her dream 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom house with Homebuyers Centre back in 2009.  She now shares it with her super cute 4-year old son, Chet.

We had a walk through Tarina’s family home to get her top tips for styling a new house and personalising it to make it your own. Her home wholeheartedly reflects her skill and passion with every inch of it styled to perfection. From the small details in her son Chet’s room to the larger feature pieces in the living areas, the home emits a very fresh and modern style.

In addition to the four bedrooms and two bathrooms, Tarina’s family home sports an open plan kitchen, dining and living area, plus a theatre. Tarina also opted for floor to ceiling windows and a sliding door in the master bedroom to let the maximum amount of light in. The home was also positioned perfectly on the block to ensure natural light filled the house from sunrise to sunset. All the spaces in the home are styled with a cohesive colour scheme of neutrals, with pops of blush pink, and petrol blue. When making colour choices, Tarina recommends that you have a clear direction with your colour palette and be sure to keep it quite neutral to allow for flexibility. Her biggest styling tip is “layering with beautiful textures and tones to capture attention and add depth to the room”. She suggests putting things in your home that reflect your personality and your own individual styling.

In the master bedroom, her biggest tip is layering using lots of textures.

“I’m a sucker for linen, textiles and décor because they can completely transform the look and feel of a room”

Every element of the master bedroom is tied together. When styling the bed itself Tarina suggests buying the quilt cover and European pillows in the same style and pairing the standard pillowcase set with either the sheets or a matching colour in the surrounding space. In her master bedroom, the beautiful timber bedside tables compliment the linen and the fluffy comforter works to break up the smoother textures. To complete the look, placing greenery on the bedside tables is a very cost-effective styling option.

Tarina’s absolute favourite room is Chet’s bedroom. Becoming a first-time parent, Tarina was excited to go crazy with the styling of her son’s bedroom. Tarina didn’t opt for a particular theme for the room, instead she took inspiration from the animal feature cushion from Chet’s bed. She pulled the pastels, dark petrol, mustard and red from the cushion and used those colours in accents throughout the room to tie the whole room together. She pulled these colours from the animal feature cushion on Chet’s bed and used it to tie the whole room together. The simple herringbone wallpaper, animal prints, and wall features, complete this very cute look.

Tarina absolutely loves her Homebuyers home and described the building process with Homebuyers Centre as “nothing but easy, from finance through to final inspection”. Having both a smooth and enjoyable building experience left Tarina and her family with a house that was everything they had dreamt of.
