Faith and Cody, Piara Waters

Faith Vacca and her fiancé Cody Thwaites are proof that it’s never too early to build your first home.

Both aged 22, the determined couple teamed up with Homebuyers Centre to build in Stockland’s New Haven estate in Piara Waters. They moved into their new four-bedroom, two-bathroom home just nine months later, in November last year.

Ms Vacca, an assistant restaurant manager, said her mum’s advice ‘work hard now so you don’t have to work hard later’ had been their inspiration.

“My advice for someone wanting to build their first home? Just do it!” Ms Vacca said. “Having your own home outweighs the negatives of not being able to go on a few date nights or out to drinks with your friends.”

Ms Vacca and Mr Thwaites, who lived with their parents while they saved for their deposit, say the First Home Owner Grant also helped a lot.

“We were able to splurge on a more expensive block without feeling guilty because we had the grant. We also took advantage of a Stockland land sale,” Ms Vacca said.

Ms Vacca and Mr Thwaites, who works for a kitchen and cabinet company, chose a Homebuyers Centre design called the Flynn, which they modified slightly to make the kitchen and bathroom’s bigger.

The couple liked the fact they could do a lot of research using the Homebuyers Centre website, which was easy to navigate. They say they didn’t feel pushed into anything and only had to make contact once they were comfortable enough to start the conversation.

“Being as young as we are, we were terrified because you hear horror stories associated with first homebuyer companies, but after doing our research, and on the recommendation of a friend, we knew Homebuyers Centre was for us,” Ms Vacca said.

“Our experience building a home was amazing. I can’t wait until we can build again one day; the whole process feels so rewarding,” she said.
